You must be looking for a charter sailing yacht holiday in Turkey, or for a charter sailing yacht
holiday in Greece. Or you may be wondering about the name, Queen of Karia. Who was she? Was she
one of three crowned queens of Caria who have come down to us in history? Was she Artemisia, the fifth
century daughter of Lygdamus, a Carian, and of a woman from Crete? Or was she the fourth century's
Artemisia the Younger, sister, wife, and widow of Mausolus? Or was she perhaps the third crowned queen
of Caria of whom we have knowledge? Ada, younger sister of Mausolus living in exile when Alexander
arrived in 334 BC, enthroned by that beneficent conqueror? Or could she be yet another queen of Caria?
Come charter
sailing in Turkey aboard Queen of Karia II and discover the answer. Come charter sailing the coast of
Turkey's ancient Caria, and of neighboring Ionia, and of neighboring Lycia. Come charter sailing the
Aegean islands of Greece, islands ruled for more than a thousand years by Carians from Asia Minor.
Come charter sailing aboard Queen of Karia II and see Turkey and Greece in luxurious comfort. Another
queen of Caria about whom we have an historical record was Aspasia the uncrowned Queen of Athens. Born
in Miletus on the border between Caria and Ionia in about 470 BC and descended of Greek and Persian as
well as Carian stock, Aspasia may have been the most liberated woman of her time. She was certainly one
of the most beautiful. In her youth she benefited from the teachings of Milesian philosophers such as
Thales, of Milesian physicists such as Anaximenes, of Milesian geographers such as Anaximander and
Hecataeus, and most of all from an extraordinarily liberal environment created by her mother and father.
In her teens she left home and in her early twenties she migrated from Miletus to Athens where she soon
took up with Pericles, the "first citizen of Athens," according to Thucydides. She was a friend to
Socrates, Aristophanes, and Alcibiades among other of the Athenian intellectual elite. It is also said
she was more than a friend to some, that she was a courtesan, and that for a time she maintained a home
in Athens for un-tethered women. But it is also said that in spite of her unconventional behavior she
attracted the cream of Athenian society simply to hear her declaim. A queen and an intellect for all
time. Are you still curious about the name, Queen of Karia? Come discover the source. Come have
