Lagoon 410 Catamarans
Holiday Cruising Turkey And Greece
This line of performance catamarans cruising
Turkey and Greece was built to the highest standards of comfort and safety while employing
new innovations in catamaran design. The Lagoon 410 offers excellent visibility from the helm,
making mooring and maneuvering relatively simple. The interior of the yacht is comfortable,
economically designed, and complements the yacht's performance. Galley and dining areas are
attractively appointed and open directly to the cockpit through a sliding door. With four
cabins and either three or four water closets, few other catamarans available for bareboat
charter can afford comparable comfort and privacy. The Lagoon 410 points to weather nicely
and is quick and stable. Off the wind, she sails in exquisite comfort.

the gray links immediately above. Thank You. You might be searching for catamarans cruising in
Turkey or Greece. Alternatively you might be searching for other shallow-draft vessels cruising in
Turkey or Greece. Well, we have both. Sort of. That is, we have catamarans cruising Turkey and Greece
today, and we have a history of shallow-draft galleys, galliots (small galleys), and fustas (undecked
galliots) cruising Turkey and Greece during centuries past. While these other shallow-draft vessels
have more than two thousand years of history in our waters, one of the more interesting chapters in
this history involves Andrea d'Amaral, a Portuguese knight of the Order of Saint John of Jerusalem, the
order's members known also as Hospitallers and as Knights of Rhodes. Though Portuguese, Andrea d'Amaral
was a member of the Spanish branch of the Knights of Rhodes, there being no Portuguese branch, and had
been awarded the title of Grand Prior of Castile. In other words, he was a senior Hospitaller. During
d'Amaral's time as a Knight of Rhodes, the first two decades of the sixteenth century, the Order
maintained behind the walls at Rhodes Town perhaps the finest hospital in the world, one with a thousand
linen-sheeted beds and patients dining off of silver plate. While the quality of medical care may have
been medieval, all knights served shifts in the hospital and all knights had knowledge of medical care.
Andrea d'Amaral was a serving brother with a particular gift. He knew the works of Pliny The Elder like
the back of his hand, including the Naturalis Historia and its chapters on human physiology and
pharmacology. In short, d'Amaral was not only a senior Hospitaller but a talented Hospitaller. But there
was more to d'Amaral than readily met the eye. Commanding three of the Order's galleys in 1510, together
with a number of galliots (such as depicted below) and fustas, he co-commanded with Philippe Villiers de
l'Isle Adam a Knights flotilla in an engagement with 25 Egyptian vessels off Alexandretta, now
Iskenderun. The outcome was an overwhelming Knights victory widely celebrated in Christendom, and the
outcome was obtained mostly by de l'Isle Adam's tactical brilliance. Andrea d'Amaral was a proud knight
and de l'Isle Adam's laurels rankled. Ten years later d'Amaral lost by a few votes an election for the
highest ranking position in the Order, Grand Master. And he lost it to de l'Isle Adam. Even though appointed Grand Admiral shortly thereafter,
d'Amaral's election defeat also rankled. Sometime during the next year he made contact with agents of the
Ottoman sultan, his purpose subversion. He is said to have invited Suleiman's 1522 invasion and siege of
Rhodes defended by de l'Isle Adam, and during the siege one of his staff was caught shooting messaged
arrows into the Ottoman camp. That was the end of a brilliant but vain individual; d'Amaral was
decapitated, drawn and quartered. While there may be a moral here, there is certainly history here. So,
were you intending to holiday cruise with your children? Were you hoping to find history that may have
been overlooked in the classroom? Can you not do both with a bareboat catamaran cruising Turkey or Greece?
Cruising Turkey's pine-clad southwest coast, perhaps, or sailing on the wind from Gocek to Rhodes Town,
pausing for a swim in each and every clear-water cove during the early going? Or are you in a hurry to
cruise the azure sea between remote Greek islands, to explore seaside towns climbing steep harbor slopes,
to locate the perfect grilled octopus? Or all of the above? Could you be dreaming of a catamaran holiday
cruising in both Turkey and Greece? If so, or if only Turkey or only Greece, how about doing both or one
or the other aboard a charter yacht with family accommodations? With accommodations for two families! How
about chartering such a yacht to cruise Turkey's ancient Lycia? To sail Andrea d'Amaral's 1510 path from
Rhodes Town to Kekova Roads and beyond? By way of Kastellorizon? How about tracing de l'Isle Adam's route
back along the coast of Lycia? While you holiday? How about having a family holiday doing this? How about
having a family holiday aboard a catamaran proceeding leisurely from enchanting locale to historic locale?
How about chartering a catamaran to cruise further along the Mediterranean coast of Turkey? To ancient
Pamphilia or to Smooth Cilicia? Both known to d'Amaral and de l'Isle Adam as Karamania. Starting in Gocek?
Are you searching for Gocek in Turkey? Well it is proximate to Dalaman International Airport 42 nautical
miles ENE of Rhodes Town. There or elsewhere we can put you aboard a bare boat or crewed catamaran for the
holiday of a lifetime. We can put you aboard a chartered catamaran and point you toward flat sailing waters
of the Gulf of Gocek, show you Andrea d'Amaral's path down the coast of Lycia, show you de l'Isle Adam's
route up the coast of Turkey to Rhodes Town. Fun catamarans available for holiday cruising in Turkey and
Greece. Contact Blue Cruise Yacht Charters today at blcryacht@aol.com
