Crewed Sailing Yacht Andrea Charters Greece,
Turkey, And Croatia
This classic Irwin 52 is a fine example of a crewed
sailing yacht. Chartering Greece, Turkey, and Croatia, she is air-conditioned and
accommodates up to six guests, two in a master cabin with queen-size bed and private bathroom, two
others in a double cabin with vanity unit, and still two more in a curtained-cabin with over-and-under
berths. These latter two cabins share a second guest bathroom. An airy salon below decks and a
bimini-shaded cockpit topside promote camaraderie, while uncluttered decks fore and aft afford
space for relaxing and sunbathing.

Dear Homo Sapiens, There is no need to continue reading this page. What follows
is intended for search engine robots and spiders and not necessarily for human beings. Further information
concerning crewed sailing yacht charters in Greece, Turkey, and Croatia may be obtained by clicking on the
gray links immediately above. Thank You. You may be searching for the Tuscan-born singer Andrea
Bocelli. You hear his rendition of Il Mare Calmo Della Sera each time you gaze at the sea, or each
time you dream of yacht charters in the eastern Mediterranean, of yacht charters in Greece, Turkey, and
Croatia. Well, you may have come to the right place even though this is not a Bocelli web page. Neither is
this a web page dealing more than superficially with the Genovese condottiere Andrea Doria, the condottiere
or mercenary soldier once a papal guard and later a cavalry commander before becoming an admiral. This web
page deals with yacht charters in Greece, with yacht charters in Turkey, and with yacht charters in Croatia
and Montenegro. These countries border the eastern Mediterranean, if, that is, the Adriatic may be considered
an arm of the eastern Mediterranean, and it is in the eastern Mediterranean that the 56-foot ketch-rigged
sailing yacht Andrea may be found catering holidays and honeymoons. While this web page is that of the
sailing yacht Andrea and not that of the condottiere Andrea Doria (depicted below at left), it was through
the eastern Mediterranean
that the latter passed in 1495. By then a 29-year old veteran of the war between the French and the Aragonese
over the Kingdom of Naples, that year il mare was mostly calmo. Doria sailed to the Holy Land from Sicily,
crossing below Italy's boot to the Ionian Sea and sailing around the Venetian Morea, the modern Peloponnesus
of Greece, across the Aegean then mostly Venetian, pausing at Rhodes and sailing on probably to Alexandria in
Egypt. The Holy Land in 1495 was ruled by Qa'it Bey, the Circassian Mameluke Sultan of both Egypt and Syria
and a patron of the arts and commerce then temporarily favoring Italian mercantile interests. The
mercantile houses in 1495 used Rhodes as a way point, and Qa'it
Bey for that reason was also temporarily at peace with the Knights of Rhodes. The Knights, for their part,
were principally concerned with seemingly relentless expansion of the Turkish Ottoman Empire which by 1517
was to consume the entire Mameluke Sultanate and five years later the island of Rhodes, as well. Doria made a
pilgrimage through Palestine to Jerusalem in the year of his crossing and was subsequently "received" by the
Knights of Rhodes. The meaning of the word "received" is in this instance not entirely clear but Doria did
lead a seemingly chaste life as required by the Order until his marriage at age 61. While at Rhodes Doria may
have served aboard one of the Order's fast red-hulled black-prowed galleys in combat with corsairs hovering
along the coast of Turkey and among Venetian islands of the Aegean, but insofar as history is concerned there
is no recorded instance of Andrea Doria in combat
with corsairs until 1513 when as commander (General of the
Sea) of the Genovese Navy he encountered Godoli and his nine-ship squadron in the northern Tyrrhenian,
capturing the corsair and destroying much of his flotilla. The last recorded instance occurred 39 years later
when as commander of the Holy Roman Empire's navy at age 86 he confronted Dragut in the same waters with much
less satisfactory results. He was soon to be replaced in command by his grand nephew Giovanni Andrea Doria.
Could you be thinking of sailing the Mediterranean, sailing the corsair crossroads of history? Why not do it
aboard Andrea, no relation to Andrea Bocelli or to Andrea Doria, but rather a Ted Irwin designed sailing ketch
with accommodations for six guests. And with hosts aware not just of history but of the more fascinating
destinations in this part of the world, of how to get to them and of what to do upon arrival. Come aboard
Andrea for an unforgettable charter yacht holiday sailing the eastern Mediterranean from Croatia to Ionian
Greece to Aegean Greece to the Turquoise Coast of Turkey. Come sail these crossroads, breathe the aroma of
pine-shrouded coves dotting Turkey's Mediterranean coast, bask under a warm Aegean sun after swimming in its
azure sea, join in the search for a perfect octopus salad, climb to an ancient acropolis re-fortified by the
aforementioned Knights, enjoy the luxury of a catered yacht charter in the eastern Mediterranean. Surely this
is the Andrea for which you search. Rare comfort under sun at the crossroads of history. Try it! You'll like
